The equator is such a magical place, of natural balance, full of life and energy. Latin for even-maker, the place where day and night are the same length around the year.

Ecuador, a country of great cultural diversity, rich history and breathtaking landscapes. Cities surrounded by volcanoes, rivers, forests; cities by the coast of the Pacific Ocean; cities deep in the jungle; islands of incomparable treasures. So much richness in such a small territory. Its people, immersed in this special scenario, have peculiar ways, as von Humboldt said:

” Ecuadorians are strange and unique beings,
they sleep peacefully
amid smoking volcanoes,
they live in poverty
amid incomparable wealth
an they cheer up with sad music.”

The combination of these elements is an endless source of inspiration, it invites to be constantly wondering and learning.

Design is always influenced by the place, communicates experiences. It takes inspiration from existing elements, talks about the way we used to use things, the way we use them now and the way we are going to use them in the future. Good design comes from understanding; understanding the place, the culture, the people.

Ecuador’s indigenous design tradition, like it’s neighbors, its very colorful, rich in textures and motives. Embraces it’s people’s vision of the world and the universe, highlighting their respect for nature.

Taking design doesn’t mean addressing merely to form and aesthetics; but to concepts, to the significance of objects. This pieces don’t only talk about the use of color and shape, but inform about the importance of materials in matter of origin, quality, sustainability and ultimately tradition and history. They tell a story about community life and everyday objects; and lead us to comprehend how we’ve redesigned them.

Designing at 00.00.00 means being lucky enough to be where the hemispheres divide, inspired and influenced by this amazing merging of cultures; learning from nature and ancient traditions.

La línea ecuatorial es un lugar mágico, de balance natural, lleno de vida y energía. Latín que significa igualador, el sitio donde el día y la noche tienen la misma duración todo el año.

Ecuador, un país con gran diversidad cultural, historia rica y paisajes impresionantes. Cuidades rodeadas de volcanes, ríos y bosques; ciudades a la costa del oceano Pacífico; ciudades en mitad de la selva; islas con tesoros incomparables. Tanta riqueza en un territorio tan pequeño. Su gente, inmersa en este escenario especial, tiene un caracter particular, como dijo von Humboldt:

” Los ecuatorianos son seres extraños y únicos,
duermen tranquilos
en medio de crujientes volcanes ,
viven pobres
en medio de incomparables riquezas
y se alegran con música triste.”

La combinación de estos elementos es una fuente inagotable de inspiración, invita constantemente a cuestionarse y aprender.

El diseño siempre está influenciado por el lugar, comunica experiencias. Toma inspiración en elementos existentes, habla de la forma en la que solíamos utilizar las cosas, como las utilizamos ahora y como las utilizaremos en el futuro. El buen diseño viene del entendimiento; de entender el lugar, la cultura, la gente.

El diseño tradicional indígena de Ecuador, como el de sus vecinos, es muy colorido, rico en texturas y motivos. Abraza la cosmovisión de su gente y resalta su respeto por la naturaleza.

Tomar inspiración no significa meramente referirse a la forma y estética; sino a los conceptos, al significado de los objetos. Estas piezas no hablan solamente del uso del color y las formas, pero informan sobre la importancia de los materiales en tema de origen, calidad, sostenibilidad y finalmente sobre tradiciones e historia. Cuentan una historia sobre la vida de la comunidad y objetos de uso diario; y nos ayudan a comprender cómo los hemos re-diseñado.

Diseñar a 00.00.00 significa tener la suerte de estar donde los hemisferios se dividen, con la inspiración e influencia de esta increible mezcla de culturas; aprendendiendo de la naturaleza y tradiciones ancestrales.
