This is a programmed obsolescence project. In today’s market a lot of items become obsolete very fast, this characteristic does not always have to be bad but it is something to think about regarding the way we design and use objects. Melting becomes different with the use, changing the way it emits the light. The wax in the upper part melts thanks to the bulb’s heat, filling up the empty spaces of the copper foam which forms the body of the lamp. The wax can eventually be removed from the lamp’s body using hot water, giving the possibility of placing a new piece of wax. In a longer period of time, copper will start changing its visual properties, reflecting the use of the lamp.

Este proyecto nace de la idea de crear un objeto con obsolescencia programada. En el mercado actual varios objetos se vuelven obsoletos rápidamente, pero esta característica no necesariamente tiene que ser una cualidad negativa, Melting se vuelve diferente con el uso, cambiando la forma la luz. La cera en la parte superior se derrite gracias al calor de la luminaria, llenando los espacios vacíos en la esponja de cobre que conforma el cuerpo de la lámpara. La cera que cae se recolecta en la bandeja inferior y eventualmente se puede remover de la estructura con agua caliente y colocar una nueva pieza de cera. Eventualmente con el uso la parte de cobre adquirirá nuevas características.
